We had so much fun at school last week. It was exciting with our kindergarteners starting, Mr. Killpack got to serve lunch (the students love when this happen), and everyone was so tired after the first full week we were all ready for naps. We are looking forward to a great new week at school!

Fundraiser Friday - Hawk Walk Preview:
As a reward for students, if we reach our school wide goal for our fundraiser, teachers and staff will participate in an inflatable character race. To make this happen we need your help. If you have an inflatable costume you'd be willing to let a teacher wear for this event, please complete this form: https://forms.gle/oAkL8txDdzT2CqXU8

As we approach our first safety drill tomorrow, we wanted to send out some important school safety information/reminders:
Visitor Check-in Process: Safety is a major priority at our school. We require any parent or patron who enters the school during school hours, to check in at the front office and get a visitor badge.
Emergency Drills - Our district has adopted the standard response protocol. We want to make sure that you are aware of the standard response procedures (SRP) for emergencies. Throughout the school year, we will hold drills that cover all the emergencies. These drills allow us to learn, improve, and be better prepared should a real emergency happen. We know these drills may cause anxiety, fear, questions, and uncertainty, but rest assured, by practicing these drills for emergency situations, if it happens, we will be able to quickly respond in the correct manner to keep all of us safe.
Pedestrian Safety- Please talk to your students that walk or bike to school and to t about the importance of crosswalk safety when walking as well as, when driving. As drivers, please be aware of crosswalks and our students (and others) who may be using them before and after school.
Gates: As a reminder, following new state guidelines for school safety, all gates on the sides and at the back of the school are locked during school hours. They are unlocked to allow students to enter in the morning and leave in the afternoon.
Pick-up/Drop-off: Please be aware of the bus zone. Parents should not be using the bus zone before 7:30 in the morning or until after 2:25 in the afternoon. Help us keep these areas safe by pulling all the way forward, having students enter from the curb, and remaining aware of students in the area.
Thanks for all you do to help us keep all of our students safe.

Dear Parents,
We are so grateful for the incredible teachers, aides, and staff at Highland Elementary! We’re always looking for ways to show them how much they mean to us.
Last year we introduced something new—the Teacher Treat Cart—and it has been a huge hit! Once a month, the cart is rolled out, filled with drinks, snacks, candy, and other goodies as a small way to say “thank you.” The staff not only enjoys it, but they look forward to it every month!
We’d love to invite everyone to join in on donations to spoil our teachers! Attached is a photo of the cart to give you an idea of the kinds of treats we stock. Please feel free to send in any treat you think they'd love, but some favorites include:
Drinks (regular & diet sodas, flavored waters, bottled water)
Movie-size candy boxes
Candy bars & protein bars
Hostess/Little Debbie treats
Granola bars & trail mix
Small bags of chips & popcorn
Mini cookies & other baked goods
(Non-perishable items only, please!)
If you’d like to contribute, simply drop off your donation at the front office and let them know it’s for the Teacher Treat Cart.
If you'd like to contribute but it feels tricky with your schedule, please reach out and I'd be happy to help coordinate.
Thank you so much for helping us make our teachers and staff feel as appreciated as they truly are!

We love our parent volunteers!! Our classrooms and our school events wouldn't be the same without you. We follow the district guidelines for volunteers - all volunteers are required to be fingerprinted and have a background check. If you are new to the school or haven't volunteered before, please make sure to complete this. Scheduling now ensures you'll be ready to volunteer when school starts.

Parents need to log in and complete the Student Annual Information Update in Skyward.
